Croatia is a country that has faced turbulent times with resilience. Its economic recovery has been aided by tourism and Croatia holidays are popular for many reasons. There are historical towns, rugged coastlines, mountains, lakes and forests. The country contains an impressive total of six World Heritage Sites and eight National Parks. The coastline is a favorite destination for scuba divers and there are a number of spas and medieval castles.

The capital city of Zagreb has historic attractions, a fine cathedral and modern amenities. There is a thriving nightlife with clubs, discos and casinos and quality shops and restaurants. The city is well known for its abundance of museums and galleries, which include museums for archeology, natural history, contemporary art and native art.

Dubrovnik is a coastal resort on the Adriatic Sea and a long established destination for Croatia holidays. The clear waters and clean beach attract many visitors and the town also offers several cultural events. Split is another coastal town on the Adriatic and it has two archeological museums with noteworthy collections. The annual music festival also draws the crowds.

Different regions in the country have their own features. The Istria Peninsula has towns from the Roman era and several, scenic hill towns. The Kvarner and Highlands area includes the town of Novalja, a popular spot with young people who like to party on the beach there in summer time during their Croatia holidays.  The region also has mountains and forests and bears can be spotted in the Plitvice Lakes National Park.

Yachting enthusiasts like to visit the country, especially around the islands of the Kornati National Park in the Zadar region. Slavonia contains the Kopacki rit National Park, which is a large swamp protecting many animal and bird species. Central Croatia has several castles, spas and Baroque churches.

Croatia is a country steeped in a long history and its own culture. Part of the enjoyment of Croatia holidays is the chance to try out the cuisine. Food and wine is of the highest quality and local dishes include strudel, custard slices in pastry and cottage cheese with cream. Specialist seafood restaurants are plentiful along the coast.

The main airports into the country are at Zagreb, Pula, Split, Dubrovnik and Rijeka. Visitors from abroad are not usually required to have an entry visa.  Tourists can feel safe in Croatia, as there is a low level of street crime.
